Debian 10 - vulkaninfo - failed with VK_ERROR_INITIALIZATION

Postby pebble2 » 2020-09-27 06:16

I tried to install Vulkan which appeared to work fine at the time but if I type 'vulkaninfo' into the terminal I get the following error but I get the following error message when I type 'vulkaninfo' into the terminal -
Code: Select all

==========

VULKANINFO

==========

Vulkan Instance Version: 1.1.97

/build/vulkan-tools-6bmpQy/vulkan-tools-1.1.97+dfsg1/vulkaninfo/vulkaninfo.c:3845: failed with VK_ERROR_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

I saw a previous post with a similar issue - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=142110

But the suggested workarounds in there didn't work for me

e.g. All you need to do is install mesa-vulkan-drivers and append this magic incarnation to the GRUB defaul Line:
CODE: SELECT ALL
radeon.cik_support=0 radeon.si_support=0 amdgpu.cik_support=1 amdgpu.si_support=1

I tried this but the terminal just said that the command could not be found.

Any idea how to fix the issue?

Thanks

How? Please post the exact command(s) that you used.

The stuff in the code box are not commands, they are kernel command line parameters. Apply them by following https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/kernel_parameters#GRUB.

But those parameters would only work if you have an AMD card that is supported by the amdgpu kernel driver. Use 'lspci -k' to find which card & driver are in use for your system.

I followed the guide on here - https://linuxconfig.org/install-and-tes ... onventions

I used # apt install libvulkan1 mesa-vulkan-drivers vulkan-utils

And then # apt install vulkan-utils

Sorry, what else do you need to know / how do I find that out?

...again, they do NOT need to be declared at the kernel command line, /etc/modprobe.d/ works fine.
If you have a SI card, amdgpu does not reach radeon feature parity until 'bullseye' with kernel 5.9+, but is needed for vulkan.
Better late than never!
