Cinnamon themes Mint-Y-Dark, Mint-X-Dark - is it possible?

Postby Solo-Mia » 2020-10-13 19:56

Debian was my first Linux distro, and I've been using it for years. Then a couple of years ago, I've switched to Mint. Now I want to switch back to Debian (I dislike some changes in Mint 20). But I've got used to Cinnamon, and it's themes Mint-Y-Dark and Mint-X-Dark. I've installed Debian stable inside Virtualbox, and don't see these themes there. Is it possible to add and use them?

Do you have Cinnamon installed in your VM?

Oh, I'm sorry, I've thought it's obvious. Now I understand I could've checked themes packages with apt without running the cinnamon theme manager. I do have Cinnamon as the only installed DE.

Thank you. I'd prefer minty-colored. But I'll try this.

Yes, packages! ) It's reminded me where to get a mint-theme package for Debian. LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition, it's fully compatible with Debian stable). I've installed the mint-artwork package from there. Now Cinnamon looks as I love it.

Thank you.

Slightly off-topic (sorry) but make the most of Cinnamon while it is still available: https://www.preining.info/blog/2020/09/ ... m-testing/

Too early to make conclusions, I think. There in comments:

is it leaving debian, or the better not ?

It is staying, one way or the other. We are discussing and testing possible alternatives at the moment (switch to gjs, update cjs).

Hmm, yes, the blog has been edited since I first read it. Good news then. If you like Cinnamon anyway...

It's also possible to install themes directly for your user from their page at cinnamon-look.org with their OCS-Install button if you have ocs-url installed, if you accept the risk of letting unknown files into your home directory.

Of course, if you install some random theme in /usr/share, then it could bork your entire system instead if it's malicious. The Mint themes seem to have been well vetted, though, and should be safe.
