no recording sound from optical RME digi32 soundcard

#1 Post by carmima »

Hello
I try to record sound from a RME digi32 optical sound card which seems to work OK :

cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Digi32 ]: Digi32 - RME Digi32
RME Digi32 (Rev. 192) at 0xdd000000, irq 18

cat /proc/asound/devices
2: [ 0- 0]: digital audio playback
3: [ 0- 0]: digital audio capture

cat /proc/asound/pcm
00-00: Digi32 IEC958 : Digi32 IEC958 : playback 1 : capture 1

amixer
Simple mixer control 'Master',0
Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Limits: Playback 0 - 65536
Mono:
Front Left: Playback 52166 [80%] [on]
Front Right: Playback 52166 [80%] [on]
Simple mixer control 'Capture',0
Capabilities: cvolume cswitch cswitch-joined
Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right
Limits: Capture 0 - 65536
Front Left: Capture 65536 [100%] [on]
Front Right: Capture 65536 [100%] [on]

the problem is recording form the device
alsamixer and the xfce4 volume-control ( mixer ) applet both tell me that the device does not support input/recording capability
audacity recognize the card as an input source option, but no sound passes through it remains silent and the graph is empty.

can someone help me with this sound card setup?
Thank you

Wow, someone with an older sound card than my M2496!
Digi32 should be supported by the snd-rme32 module in the kernel so that's a good sign. It's recognised as a device so it's probably just a matter of finding the right config. Have you tried rmedigicontrol from the alsa-tools-gui package?
I don't own a Digi32 and doubt anyone else here would either so can't help more. A quick internet search didn't find any mention of it after 2008 and RME doesn't seem to have offered Win drivers since Win 2000 and never much for Linux.
You could try asking on Linux Audio Users mailing list or at Linux Musicians forum - https://linuxmusicians.com
