hello
I tried to install libimobile device to get access to my iPhone
so I followed the instructions from iPhone wiki
installed
aptitude install libimobiledevice-utils gvfs-backends gvfs-bin gvfs-fuse
created the fuse group and added myself to this group
downloaded and built https://libimobiledevice.org/ and some of its dependencies libusbmuxd
now I cannot login anymore: I get en empty debian 11 bullseye background image with no menu whatsoever
what can I do to get my system back and running?
thanks for advise.

Re: problem after iPhone libimobiledevice installation
Can you switch to a console screen (<ctrl>+<alt>+F3)? Applying 2 or 3 or 4 or systemd.unit=multi-user.target as a kernel command line parameter (instructions) should make the machine boot to a TTY so you can use `make uninstall` to undo the damage (presuming there is an uninstall target in the makefile ofc).carmima wrote:now I cannot login anymore: I get en empty debian 11 bullseye background image with no menu whatsoever

Re: problem after iPhone libimobiledevice installation
I dont know why installation caused damage but I had to re-install the nvidia-driver package to rebuild the kernel module

Re: problem after iPhone libimobiledevice installation
Both Apple and Google go out of their way to make it difficult to access their devices directly, pushing users towards their cloud offerings.
My experience is that if you can get it to work, it won't be long before it doesn't.
I prefer an app supporting sftp and/or my own nextcloud server for moving files on and off devices.
