suddenly no play video enless root

Suddenly as a user i can't play videos of any kind only if i start the progs like xine or mplayer or totem as root can i play video..

Any error message? If you're brave, try to put strace before mplayer (like, strace mplayer foo.avi), and see whether you see a EPERM somewhere that might be the reason of the failure?

why if i'm brave? anyway this is the message i get.. to be clear the progs work just that they only work as root..

You can inform the developers of what happened to help them fix it.  Or you can restart the application right now.

i tried with strace anyway and nothing different happend
