User shutdown

#1 Post by Lavene »

Is it possible to allow users to shut down the computer in GDM? I know it can be done in KDM, but I really like GDM.

Another user is sometimes borrowing my laptop and I really don't want to give out the root password in order to make her able to shut it down...

Thanks
Tina

Hi Tina, fancy seeing you here. ;)

You can enable shutting down in GDM by running gdmconfig, clicking on the "Security" tab and, ticking the 'show actions menu' box and then making sure the 'Secure actions menu' is unticked.

For more details, see this thread on that other forum...

John! Hi :)

I'm all over the place these days ;)

My system don't know about "gdmconfig" so I had to do it the hard way by editing the /etc/gdm/gdm.conf

Thanks for the link
Tina
