nvidia drivers/kernel modules

#1 Post by veezis »

so here's the problem:
i run a custom kernel, and i have no will to keep a unpacked kernel source into /usr/src (i found out that the default driver from nvidia.com requires it). So i installed kernel headers for my custom kernel and then used module-assistant to create nvidia-kernel for my kernel (module-assistant auto-install nvidia) and everything worked out just great (offcourse together with nvidia-glx ; nvidia-kernel-common etc) - i was playing quake3 etc. untill the reboot - after that it (X) didn't work saying "failed to initialize nvidia module" - i repeated the same procedure twice and it seems that nothing changes. everything runs perfect till you reboot. why so?

Hi,

I think you just need to add nvidia to /etc/modules.
that way the nvidia module will be loaded at boot.
