Re: xserver-common=2:1.11.0-1 broke nvidia drive[fixed] [Sol
I'm not sure that the problem is entirely fixed. On my system (a Thinkpad T61 laptop with NVidia Quadro NS140m, Debian Unstable and KDE 4.6.5) after i update xorg to the last version in Unstable and install the drivers from Experimental (290.03) at first sight everything appears OK. However i have the following two problems - Flash player crashed every time it is started (i have the latest version installed and i tried both the one from the debian multimedia repository and a manual installation from their website) and also if i reboot the computer and start KDE everything is normal, but if i log in and logout i get sever graphical artifacts like the ones seen on the screenshots:
I can fix this by logging out, then switching to the virtual terminal and then manually restarting the KDM service.

Second that, and now my desktop feels slightly more snappier. Oh happy days!62chevy wrote:As far as I'm concerned the problem with xserver version 1.11 is fixed. The new beta drivers from Nvidia(290.03) and the new release from Xorg(1.11.1.901-2) have solved the problem.

Am i the only one with problems with flash player with the latest xorg in Unstable and the 290.03 nvidia drivers? The other problem which i reported can be fixed but flash crashes everytime and is unusable at the moment.

Fix confirmed!
Everything works fine with the new Beta drivers on a 32bit system, even Flash Player. Snappy and fully up-to-date again!

No I had the newest flash from adobe crash on me to but manually put version 10 back in and it works fine now. Also I tend to use the beta drivers when possible.hellfire[bg] wrote:Am i the only one with problems with flash player with the latest xorg in Unstable and the 290.03 nvidia drivers? Apparently i'm not the only one with issues with flash player and nvidia drivers 290.03 - http://nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=167698
I can also reproduce the other problem with the graphical artifacts. The graphical artifacts appear only in GTK programs like Firefox, GIMP and nvidia-settings. Can anyone else reproduce it?

Where can i download 64 bit version 10 of the flash player. On adobe's site i see only the latest version in 64 bit and version 10 in the archive is only 32 bit.No I had the newest flash from adobe crash on me to but manually put version 10 back in and it works fine now. Possible depends to new drivers?

For me manually installing the latest version from adobe's site did not help.

You can try the http://debian-multimedia.org non-free section and install flashplayer-mozilla (3:11.0.1.152+amd64-0.0) - amd64 - Stable/Squeeze. May or may not help. Sorry I could not find a link version 10 of adobe flash on the net.hellfire[bg] wrote:For me manually installing the latest version from adobe's site did not help.

That's what i had originally installed. Then i removed it and tried the one from adobe's site. Both versions crash every time. I'm surprised more people here don't have the problem, considering that it seems pretty common judging by the thread in the nvidia forums.

I also have the same problem.hellfire[bg] wrote:That's what i had originally installed. Then i removed it and tried the one from adobe's site. Both versions crash every time. besides that I have a more serious problem, my system is a laptop and the nvidia driver don't find the laptop monitor. However, the driver works fine (except the adobe flash thing) if I connect a external monitor.

I'm using flashplugin-nonfree from Testing, which installs Flash version 10.3r183, and as far as I can determine it works fine with nVidia 290.03 on my 32-bit system. I installed the nVidia driver with sgfxi (sgfxi -B) if that makes any difference.

You may want to start a new thread on the laptops monitor because some of the gurus in that area may not look at this thread. That said two places you can start looking for the problem is /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /etc/X11/xorg.conf may be miss-configured.microcris wrote:I also have the same problem.hellfire[bg] wrote:That's what i had originally installed. What happenes if you backup your xorg.file and create a new one with nvidia-xconfig?besides that I have a more serious problem, my system is a laptop and the nvidia driver don't find the laptop monitor. However, the driver works fine (except the adobe flash thing) if I connect a external monitor.

Have you tried the flashplayer-mozilla for Debian-multimedia?

Didn't try that one no, but I have since retreated back to the nouveau driver. Just wanted to see if the drivers in experimental worked well, which they do.Have you tried the flashplayer-mozilla for Debian-multimedia?
I'll prolly wait for the new driver to make it's way to Sid, prior to installing again.
It's good to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel though.

the issue with flash and 290.03 is known and already discussed on the beta driver thread on nvnews.net
Beta always means beta, not stable, make sure you ask this question in the right place, the nvnews.net forums, that's where nvidia non free bugs and issues are handled, most debian users don't track that stuff from what I've seen, nor should they be expected to, beta drivers are for testing and finding bugs, they found one, this one.

It is the same.hellfire[bg] wrote:What happenes if you backup your xorg.file and create a new one with nvidia-xconfig?besides that I have a more serious problem, my system is a laptop and the nvidia driver don't find the laptop monitor. However, the driver works fine (except the adobe flash thing) if I connect a external monitor.
Usually, when I install a new version of nvidia driver, I run the nvidia-xconfig.
By the way, if I remove the xorg.conf I have this:
It doesn't create the xorg.conf file and the xserver don't recognize the XF86Config file. I had to copy the XF86Config to xorg.conf.cris@G1:~$ sudo nvidia-xconfig
Using X configuration file: "/etc/X11/XF86Config".
WARNING: Unable to parse X.Org version string.
Backed up file '/etc/X11/XF86Config' as '/etc/X11/XF86Config.backup'
New X configuration file written to '/etc/X11/XF86Config'
here it is the contens of xorg.conf:
# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 280.13 (pbuilder@cake) Mon Aug 8 15:37:15 UTC 2011
