Sarge Sound Alsa Pipeline?

#1 Post by ~zoey~ »

I installed debian sarge with kernel 2.4.27using the installer and downloading most of the files from the net.

I then installed x windows system and gnome.

Everything works well except for the sound. gstreamer will play a test sound for esd, but can't find the pipeline for alsa.

I did install and enable gnome event sounds.

I installed alsa mixer but when I run it, just a blank window comes up.

I also installed the module for alsa [kernel 2.4].

I would appreciate some suggestions as to what I should do next.

Thanks, zoey :?

sound demon?

#2 Post by elgrande »

I guess you should have a sound demon running...

In case of gnome this should be esd per default(?)... ps -A | grep esd could give some information whether a process is missing...
man esd-config helps there... ;-)

I personally prefer jack instead of esd... it is more work to be set up, but you will definetively have more fun with it if you're kinda audiophile...

gstreamer alsa module

#3 Post by elgrande »

Maybe you missed a gstreamer alsa module.

If you type the command
'apt-cache search gstream | grep alsa'
The appropriate module should be shown.
Then install it using apt, restart the application and see if it helps.
Just drop a note if u r still o the topic.

Peace, elgrande
