have a problem in my notebook camera

#1 Post by IreneZhou »

it reports “no device found”
I don't know why it acts like so.
Just a few days ago it works.
Is there any problem with my drivers?
My system is Debian GNU/Linux 8.0 (jessie)

This doesn't tell us about webcams, but you could also try:

Code: Select all

lsusb
and paste the output here. Then we will see what driver you need.
Look for a line that says "webcam". Here is mine as a comparison:

Code: Select all

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 04f2:b071 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd 2.0M UVC Webcam / CNF7129
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

Thank you for reply

But my camera is a built-in camera, not a usb one.

So I can't find it in lsusb.

Should be drive in kernel.

Again, a lot thanks.

Is the module loaded?

Code: Select all

lsmod|grep uvcvideo
If not, does this make it work:

Code: Select all

# modprobe uvcvideo

Thanks for your patient reply!

I tried the first command lsmod|grep uvcuideo , but there is nothing

So I try the second, # mod probe uvcvideo

it turns out something like this
$ lsmod|grep uvcvideo
uvcvideo 79005 0
videobuf2_vmalloc 12816 1 uvcvideo
videobuf2_core 47787 1 uvcvideo
videodev 126451 3 uvcvideo,v4l2_common,videobuf2_core
media 18305 2 uvcvideo,videodev
usbcore 195340 5 btusb,uvcvideo,ehci_hcd,ehci_pci,xhci_hcd

But the camera doesn't work anyway

Strange. I thought that even built-in cameras were just USB devices.
Sorry, I'm not sure how else they would be connected.

I also can't find a website of that manufacturer. Do you have any documentation
that mentions at least what webcam that is? Then you could look for the module
you need on this website.

I'm guessing hardware failure here.

Try a live version of a different distribution to check.

Much thanks.
Weird cam...indeed, cause it worked well yesterday.
My cam is automatically driven when I install system, so I don't know what driver in kernel is in responsible for cam.
Got any idea?
Your help means a lot to me and wish you a good day.

The "driver" is the uvcvideo module -- if your camera was functional, udev would detect it & load the module automatically.

If your camera worked before in the same system then it is most likely that the camera has broken.

If you download an ISO for a different distribution (Ubuntu has very good hardware support) and start it in "live" mode (ie, do not install it to your hard drive) you will be able to check if it works at all and eliminate any possibility of hardware incompatibility with Debian.
