[SOLVED] Can't build driver for DWA-171 wireless adapter

Postby jppeters » 2018-06-20 22:44

I'm in the process of a full reinstall, moving from 7.7.0 (plus firmware) to 9.4.0 (plus firmware). Really happy that video and sound now work without me having to do anything, but wireless still doesn't work out of the box. I downloaded the Linux driver for DWA-171 from http://support.dlink.ca/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DWA-171 and installed make, g++, and linux-headers-amd64 through Synaptic. But when I ran the install script, I got a load of compilation errors: https://pastebin.com/PLt9cYPQ

I don't know if it's an issue with the driver or if I should install an older version of gcc/g++. Or should I be using a different driver entirely? I can post more information if needed.

Thanks for any help!

No doubt it's because that driver source has not been updated for the newer 4.9 kernel. I'm going to do the Google Search for you.

Here you go, try building this source: https://github.com/abperiasamy/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux
The MX Linux repositories: Backports galore! If we don't have something, just ask and we'll try--we like challenges. New packages: Quod Libet 4.2.0, Pale Moon 28.2.0, wine-staging 3.20, GIMP 2.10.8, Liquorix kernel 4.18-22, Midori 6.0

Had to nuke and pave a few more times due to unrelated issues, but this was the driver I needed. Thanks!
