Hi Bulkley, very happy to know the MX340 help was appreciated.
Regarding the MP140, gutenprint should support it fine, as we now know.
Just for reference, when debugging CUPS, it is beneficial to first set logging level to debug,
increase the size of the log file to unlimited, and then check that log file after trying a print.
To add a printer, it should be auto-detected, but if not, yes, the gutenprint driver should be there if you look under Canon printer possibilities in CUPS selection.
gutenprint 5.2.10 should be out soon, working very hard on finishing this.

please let me know is your operating system is a 32 bit or 64 bit, may be i can help you with that problem? as i had recently this issue.
