Debian 8 Jessie problems with Huawei Modem E3531

#1 Post by arich.net »

Hello I have a modem Huawei E3531 from the company O2 in Germany which is not being properly setup on my Linux Desktop ( Debian 8 ). So far I have detected that usb_modeswitch recognize the hardware and adds two modem devices /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1 using a generic usbserial driver. The problem is that wvdial is not able to connect to the USB Serial on any baudrate. It seems that the way the modem interacts with the Operating System has changed. There are also present on dmesg some segfaults messages which makes me think that usb_modeswitch is having some issues with this hardware. I paste the messages I receive on all the tests I have done so far.

Dmesg: (Seems it detects firs a Storage device and after some retries it goes to the Modem device)

It seems two new Modem devices has been added to the system. But if I try wdvial to generate a configuration file, it just can't communicate with the modem.

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?

Hello. I see that it has past some time since you needed help with your modem. I have got the same problem with a similar Huawei Modem. Did you manage to configure yours? Would you be kind to give me some hints about how to make the modem work?
