Can't scan at 1200 dpi (Canon MP160)

#1 Post by bester69 »

hi,

My system;
System: Host: debian Kernel: 4.6.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: KDE 4.14.2
Distro: Debian GNU/Linux 8
Machine: System: Acer product: Extensa 5230 v: 0100
CPU: Single core Intel 575 (-UP-) cache: 1024 KB clocked at 1994 MHz

The scanner is a Canon Pixma MP160

I'd like to be able to scan at 1200 dpi, i can do it at 150/300/600 but firmware seems not to be able with 1200.

I userd xsane -> Dont show 1200 dpi option
i used gnome-simple-scan;.> It shows 1200, but it does 600 with that option

Scan works at 1200, cos im able to scan at 1200 dpi, by using virtualbox XP in linux.

Any help?

Google says there used to be a driver as an rpm package on Canon's site, but it's not listed anymore.
I guess Canon doesn't give a damn because it's probably an older piece of hardware and they never really
supported Linux properly in the first place.
Your best bet is probably to find out what Sane, the open source driver supports.

EDIT: Done that for you. Seems like your scanner only has the support status of "basic", so not all features are there.
See here.

The man file for the driver says:

A while back, I spent hours searching, trying to figure out why my new printer
would not print in color, finally Stevepusser pointed out to me, that the model
I had was "Black and White" only

I assume you are using SANE with the pixma backend. If the hardware supports optical 1200dpi (not just software-interpolated), yet the pixma backend does not yet have this, then please contact teh SANE mailing list and the pixma backend maintainer can add such support pretty quickly: one or two tests will be needed to check if it works, but that is about it.
