Dolby (5.1) sound not working

#1 Post by cincho »

Hello guys,

I have been trying for a long time (over a year) to get 5.1 sound on my laptop. My computer is a HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14, which is officially supporting Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/har ... 206-11167/) and the sound card is a Intel 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller Audio.

I have read forums, blogs, wikis but it seems I can't find a solution for this, so sorry if you feel this has been already solved.

aplay -l:

Code: Select all

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: 92HD99BXX Analog [92HD99BXX Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
lsmod |grep snd:

Code: Select all

snd_hda_codec_hdmi 45118 1
snd_hda_codec_idt 48946 1
snd_hda_codec_generic 63181 1 snd_hda_codec_idt
snd_hda_intel 26407 6
snd_hda_controller 26646 1 snd_hda_intel
snd_hda_codec 104500 5 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_codec_idt,snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_controller
snd_hwdep 13148 1 snd_hda_codec
snd_pcm 88662 4 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_controller
snd_timer 26614 1 snd_pcm
snd 65244 20 snd_hwdep,snd_timer,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_codec_idt,snd_pcm,snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel
soundcore 13026 2 snd,snd_hda_codec

I have tried multiple things including the change to pulseaudio default-sample-channels = 6. And this is what I can see on Gnome Sound Manager, no 5:1 at all only stereo.

Any help would me much appreciated, thanks a lot.

...officially supporting Ubuntu....
This is Debian User Forums for people who use Debian. We don't use Ubuntu.

Why not ask Ubuntu?

Sorry, not saying I'm using Ubuntu, I'm using Debian Jessie, just mentioning Ubuntu is officially supported to denote that there must be Linux drivers for it.

I have tried this solution already, it seems to pick the configuration on load, but when I try to select it on the dropdown it disappears.
