Radeon driver (activation?)

#1 Post by vilbjorg »

hello
I have read through the related posts and decided to submit this question since I have been trying to solve this problem for a while and would love to extend my linux knowledge.
Beneath you will find some info on my computer. By startup and shutdown I get a repeated : ERROR Radeon UVD not responding, trying to reset the VCPU.
I am looking for a way to solve this, and possibly get the full use of the computer. It has 2 graphics cards.
I am running AVLinux 2016, which is Debian, but testing
uname -a
Linux AntiDelusionMechanism 4.1.5-rt5-avl2 #24 SMP PREEMPT RT Fri Aug 21 06:52:51 EDT 2015 x86_64 GNU/Linux

(I had tried some kernel updates, but it made the problem worse so the machine could actually not shut down - I am now on a fresh install)

I have tried to install various packages related to firmware, but it does not change the error
Thank you in advance.
Vilbjørg

(I see it is getting a bit long but here is some additional information)
the problem looks a bit similar to this 2 years old bug, but I am not sure how to use that to solve it: https://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/ ... 00080.html

some printout from the syslog:

Re: Radeon driver (activation?)

I am running AVLinux 2016, which is Debian, but testing
Debian is Debian. AV Linux is AV Linux. There are about 130 distros "based" on Debian and we cannot be expected to know about them all. Debian gets things added, things taken away, things changed - so it becomes something else, not Debian.

Have you tried the AV Linux Forum? http://bandshed.net/forum/

yes thanks, I tried the AVLinux forum some month ago. Got recommended to try other (RT)kernels, but newer kernel made the problem worse.
I will look further .

Well, the other option for that hardware would be the non-free fglrx-driver.

Hi thanks lots for the recommendations, I will try it. It is a learning process (So great slowly to be able to move all my artwork and music onto this wonderful operating system)
