[SOLVED]TP-WN725N wifi-adapter no signal[Jessie 8.6]

#1 Post by willmaster »

I have bought a new TP-WN725N wireless adapter which uses realtek 8188eu driver. The device is clearly recognized but the problem is the network range shown in all networks is 0%. I have installed the firmware-realtek[non-free] from the official repositories and also I have tried the driver from thehttps://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8188eu both drivers successfully recognizes the device but no network range.By no network range I mean it shows some available wifi networks with no signal and it doesn't connect to them.

Re: TP-WN725N wifi-adapter recognised but 0% signal[Jessie 8

#2 Post by Dai_trying »

I had problems with my realtek8192CU dropping connections and needed to install a fixed firmware, I got mine from github here and it doesn't state your chip exactly, but it seems to also support RTL8188CUS, RTL8188CE-VAU and RTL8188RU, but likr the readme says it can be "hit and miss". Might be worth looking into, or there could be another fix for you exact card but a cursory google didn't return it.
I did find this ubuntu fix which could work, although I think it uses the same repo for the driver as you already tried, but in the comments there are some extra steps you might take to get it working.

Thank you for your time and suggestion, but the situation is same and I have tried most of the options on that site but all in vain.
But somehow the device is working in Xubuntu 16.10 in live medium.Below are the details of the module:

Is there anyway I can back-port the same driver to Debian Jessie ?

Xubuntu 16.10 uses kernel 4.8 which in turn has a newer driver than the one in Jessies kernel 3.16
You could try using a newer kernel and firmware from jessie backports.

I have to agree, I would use the backported kernel (I have to on my new laptop to get everything working properly) and wireless drivers if available too.

Well I have back-ported to 4.7 and I have to install the firmware-realtek from Jessie-backports,the adapter is working fine but I am getting this error failed to load kernel modules at the starting of new kernel see the code:

Code: Select all

rahul@debian:~$ systemctl status systemd-modules-load.service
● systemd-modules-load.service - Load Kernel Modules
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/systemd-modules-load.service; static)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Thu 2016-12-01 09:54:59 IST; 5min ago
     Docs: man:systemd-modules-load.service(8)
           man:modules-load.d(5)
  Process: 293 ExecStart=/lib/systemd/systemd-modules-load (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
 Main PID: 293 (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
rahul@debian:~$ cd /etc/modules-load.d/
rahul@debian:/etc/modules-load.d$ ls
cups-filters.conf modules.conf
rahul@debian:/etc/modules-load.d$ cat cups-filters.conf
# Parallel printer driver modules loading for cups
# LOAD_LP_MODULE was 'yes' in /etc/default/cups
#lp
#ppdev
#parport_pc
rahul@debian:/etc/modules-load.d$ cat modules.conf
# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded
# at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with "#" are ignored.

rahul@debian:/etc/modules-load.d$ cd /usr/lib/modules-load.d/
rahul@debian:/usr/lib/modules-load.d$ ls
rahul@debian:/usr/lib/modules-load.d$
I have commented out lp,ppdev,parport_pc as I am not using any printer but still the same error.Any suggestions.

The issue is resolved after checking the details of the process given by the pid I found out that it was trying to load vmghfs which is a module of the package open-vm-tools-dkms.As I am not using any virtual machine so I removed that package and now everything is good with no errors.

Code: Select all

rahul@debian:~$ systemctl status -l systemd-modules-load.service
● systemd-modules-load.service - Load Kernel Modules
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/systemd-modules-load.service; static)
Active: active (exited) since Thu 2016-12-01 19:46:46 IST; 3min 9s ago
     Docs: man:systemd-modules-load.service(8)
           man:modules-load.d(5)
  Process: 183 ExecStart=/lib/systemd/systemd-modules-load (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
 Main PID: 183 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
   CGroup: /system.slice/systemd-modules-load.service
To check the module that is causing the trouble I have used:

Code: Select all

sudo journalctl _PID=xxx
replace xxx with the pid of the process shown in

Code: Select all

systemctl status -l systemd-modules-load.service
.
Thank you all for your time.
It's nice to be back to Debian after using the Arch linux.
