near-constant crashing on when I try opening the chromium browser.
Cpu: AMD Sempron 150
Gpu: Nvidia nForce 430/ GeForce 6150se
Ram: 4gb
OS: Debian Stable "Jessie" 8.7.1 with Xfce and Chromium and Xfce whisker menu installed

Oddly it is no longer forming the glitch, have no idea why not...

Firefox would originally crash too, but eventually it got to working. The crash looked like this ((https://goo.gl/photos/FivuE3o1WrCCYLdy8)cannot post picture along with post for some reason)

Based solely on the symptoms reported, I'm inclined to suspect dying-but-not-yet-dead GPU. If you have a spare, it'd probably be worth the time to swap out GPU and see if the problem disappears.
(And as long as you have the case open anyway, reseat everything and dust with compressed air--all of the basic things you should have tried already.)
