Touchpad not working

Postby chomby » 2017-02-25 15:20

So, I installed Debian for my first time. While there are lots of items I'm still learning about, one of them is that I can't seem to get my touchpad to work. I've tried following the steps here:
https://wiki.debian.org/SynapticsTouchpad

So I installed the synaptics package and it says its enabled under 'Mouse and Touchpad' for System Settings, so I'm not sure what part I'm doing wrong.
Something I think theoretically is the problem but also can't seem to fix is that I can't find a xorg.conf.d folder in etc although I did find one in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d as 50-synaptics as an uneditable file requesting me to not edit it.

How should I proceed? Thank you for all help in advance.

Update:
After further google searching I discovered a solution here that helped me.
https://martincooper9.wordpress.com/201 ... -touchpad/
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=122385

I'm not sure if it was a combination of the two or specifically the actions with modprobe -v evdev in the latter.
But to anyone who ever needs help with their Synaptics touchpad in the future, those seem to be good resources to start from.
