TP-LINK TL-WN725N not working

#1 Post by marath »

Dear Forum

I'm new to linux. I'm trying to make TP-LINK TL-WN725N v2 work on a pentium 4 with a very very old pci agp graphics card. Gnome wont run, so I try KDE, but it crashes with some panic when I put the correct password for wlan0. Now I'm on LXDE, and stil not been able to make tplink work...
I used the this tutorial https://github.com/ilnanny/TL-WN725N-TP-Link-Debian , and after that try some others. The pc detects the wlan0
wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet Endereço de HW c4:e9:84:1e:e6:bf
UP BROADCASTMULTICAST MTU:1500 Métrica:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
colisões:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)
This is iwconfig:
wlan0 unassociated Nickname:"<WIFI@REALTEK>"
Mode:Managed Frequency=2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
Sensitivity:0/0
Retry:off RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality=0/100 Signal level=0 dBm Noise level=0 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

And WICD shows two times my wlan, with is correct name both with -1 in signal force. When I try to connect it gives me wrong password, however it is the correct password. In KDE it shows just one time me wlan. If I use a wrong password it ask for it again. If I put the correct password...kernel panic.

Sorry about my poor English

Thanks in advance
Marath

PS: for some reason in my initial tries, I coul get this working for all day in KDE...after a day, panic in kernel

This device will need firmware to function and standard Debian install images do not include non-free firmware.

You can either install firmware-realtek if you can establish an ethernet connection or download the package to a thumb drive and

Code: Select all

dpkg -i firmware-realtek
.

There are also non-free images which include firmware.

That github driver actually installs its own firmware--at least it's in the source, and that's what out-of-tree drivers do.

Marath, please let us know a little bit more. Are you running Jessie, or the soon to be released Stretch? Out-of-tree Realtek drivers have had known issues with a competing driver in the 4.9 kernel in Stretch.
