Missing iwlwifi, amdgpu and Intel DMC graphics drivers

#1 Post by Jjueh3 »

Hello, I have a Dell 5567 with an Intel Core i5-7200U and an AMD GPU R7 M445 + Intel Graphics
I'm new to Debian, I installed a new Debian 9 system and supplied it with the firmware.zip from https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unof ... /20170619/ by putting it into the /firmware on the usb drive that I installed it from.

The installation asked for firmware and found the firmware-iwlwifi driver which is this one: https://packages.debian.org/stretch/firmware-iwlwifi
The wifi worked in the installation and after but on boot there appears to be some problems.
Should i be worried about the iwlwifi-7265D wifi fiels missing if my WiFi is working?

I have an amd gpu and Debian seemed to have the xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu version: 1.2.0-1+1b and xserver-xorg-video-ati version: 1:7.8.0-1+b1
In the description of the xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu states that it supports the Iceland chip familiy, the M445 is a TOPAZ/ICELAND familiy from what I was able to find on the internet.
lspci gives: Display controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Topaz XT [Radeon R7 M260/M265 / M340/M360 / M440/M445] (rev c3)
But at boot I get complaints that firmware: failed to load amdgpu/topaz_mc.bin is missing, is the Xorg driver missing this file?

The DMC firmware sis missing too, it's for the Intel Graphics but I'm not sure for what exactly. This package appears to have this package https://packages.debian.org/stretch/fir ... sc-nonfree Is it necessary? What is it for?
Also do I have to manually switch gpu's in order to use the AMD one?

Yes, you need firmware-misc-nonfree and firmware-amd-graphics, if your AMD hardware isn't so recent that the firmware's not in it and the drivers don't support it.

This is the only thing I could find in the wiki about your hybrid graphics: https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo#Hybrid_Graphics

No.

The kernel falls back to the latest firmware in the firmware package.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1326591

If you go to Intel's Linux firmware page and download the latest firmware, it seems they have skipped from iwlwifi-7265D-22 to iwlwifi-7265D-27, so I guess we're stuck with seeing the same error message.
