[solved] Debian Stretch, 4K display unavailable

Postby SebastienGalliot » 2017-07-03 06:53

Hi,

After upgrading from Jessie to Stretch, i get a max resolution of 1920x1080 on my second monitor.

How can i manage to get full 4K display working?
My graphic card is Nvidia GTX960M, and was working nicely in 4K mode with Jessie.

After some hours studying xrandr and reading docs, here is the good way to add undetected resolutions :

Obtaining modelines from Xorg log https://www.x.org/wiki/FAQVideoModes/#index3h2

Read your Xorg log file (search for "clock")

Code: Select all
[   347.130] (II) modeset(0): Supported detailed timing:
[   347.130] (II) modeset(0): clock: 594.0 MHz   Image Size:  596 x 335 mm
[   347.130] (II) modeset(0): h_active: 3840  h_sync: 4016  h_sync_end 4104 h_blank_end 4400 h_border: 0
[   347.130] (II) modeset(0): v_active: 2160  v_sync: 2168  v_sync_end 2178 v_blanking: 2250 v_border: 0
[   347.130] (II) modeset(0): Supported detailed timing:
[   347.130] (II) modeset(0): clock: 297.0 MHz   Image Size:  596 x 335 mm
[   347.130] (II) modeset(0): h_active: 3840  h_sync: 4016  h_sync_end 4104 h_blank_end 4400 h_border: 0
[   347.130] (II) modeset(0): v_active: 2160  v_sync: 2168  v_sync_end 2178 v_blanking: 2250 v_border: 0
[   347.130] (II) modeset(0): Ranges: V min: 23 V max: 76 Hz, H min: 24 H max: 160 kHz, PixClock max 605 MHz
[   347.130] (II) modeset(0): Monitor name: ASUS PB27U

then produce a modeline using one of theses lines :

Code: Select all
xrandr --newmode "4K6" 297.0 3840 4016 4104 4400 2160 2168 2178 2250 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode HDMI-2  "4K6"
xrandr --output HDMI-2 --mode "4K6"

This solved my case.
