are drm skylake drivers necessary?

Getting your soundcard to work, using Debian on non-i386 hardware, etc

are drm skylake drivers necessary?

Would you advise me to install this firmware?

$ dmesg | grep firmware
[ 30.821912] i915 0000:00:02.0: firmware: failed to load i915/skl_dmc_ver1_26.bin (-2)
[ 30.821922] i915 0000:00:02.0: Direct firmware load for i915/skl_dmc_ver1_26.bin failed with error -2
[ 30.821924] i915 0000:00:02.0: Failed to load DMC firmware [], disabling runtime power management.
[ 30.828675] [drm] GuC firmware load skipped

My system is running 100% free software at the moment and seems to be working well.

I just don't want to overload the CPU/GPU (I don't really know what happens if I don't load this driver).

Anyway, is it advised to install it?

It says in the log that runtime power management is being disabled, which means it might consume more power.

According to : wrote:DMC provides additional graphics low-power idle states. It provides capability to save and restore display registers across these low-power states independently from the OS/Kernel.

100%? So you're running Coreboot instead of the OEM UEFI system firmware? And the firmware in your storage drives is also open source? Good for you! Most of us have to accept using the OEM versions just to make them work.
