RT5370 Wireless Adapter

#1 Post by krooked1 »

Hello all, this is my first time running Debian although I've used debian-based distros in the past. Gotta say, it's the best. Anyway...

I already got drivers for my pcie wireless card working, but now I am trying to get a dongle working (supports packet injection, monitor mode, etc.)
I followed this tutorial: https://wiki.debian.org/rt2800usb
Running Debian 9 I installed firmware-misc-nonfree

Code: Select all

root@omni1:~# uname -a
Linux omni1 4.9.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.51-1 (2017-09-28) x86_64 GNU/Linux
Here are the results of iwconfig, the dongle is wlx001986513066 - why it's not wlan1 - idk I'm still new to debian. (if someone cares to touch on that, it'd be nice, also maybe how i can change it.)

Code: Select all

root@omni1:~# iwconfig
wlp3s0f0 IEEE 802.11 ESSID:"Tower of Babel"
          Mode:Managed Frequency:2.437 GHz Access Point: 5C:B0:66:DC:0E:6D
          Bit Rate=72.2 Mb/s Tx-Power=30 dBm
          Retry short limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
          Link Quality=70/70 Signal level=35 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:21 Invalid misc:175 Missed beacon:0

enp4s0f1 no wireless extensions.

wlx001986513066 IEEE 802.11 ESSID:off/any
          Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=30 dBm
          Retry short limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off

lo no wireless extensions.

Code: Select all

root@omni1:~# lsusb |grep RT
Bus 001 Device 010: ID 148f:5370 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT5370 Wireless Adapter
So as one could see, everything looks fine, however, when I go to actually connect to a network on that interface... it fails to connect. My pcie nic card works just fine though and connects to my home network with no problems.
If anybody could help me it would be very much appreciated. Any additional output needed from the terminal; please advise. This will be a learning process for me and I am excited about that!

Once again, any help would be greatly appreciated. I can't figure out what (Reason: 3=DEAUTH_LEAVING) is or why it's happening.

I'm guessing 5c:b0:66:dc:0e:6d is the MAC for your router and I would interpret the error as a failure of authentication.

There are multiple ways to setup a connection: Network manager, Wicd, connman and command line described in the Debian wifi howto wiki. I'd start by double checking the keys - a common mistake is using the ASCII passphrase when the spec is for the hexadecimal PSK HASH.

If you done that, It will help the forum to know what method your are using and if you are trying to setup hostap with the second wifi device.
