Brightness on Acer Swift 1.

#1 Post by Coline »

Hi,

I have some trouble to use function keys on Debian Stretch LXDE with my Acer Swift 1.
  • Function keys work on Linuxmint 18 or Ubuntu (liveUSB).
  • I can modify the file : /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness with values between 0 and 96000 : it does change the brightness.
  • I do not have a GUI-based app or applet to change the brightness, I can't find any.
Do you have some clue about this problem ? Thank you ! :)

In BunsenLabs we use xfce4-power-manager to control the backlight and I think mate-power-manager will also do that.

Thanks you ! No idea about adjusting the brightness with a power manager...!

It works with xfce4-power-manager but I can't find any applet-icon.
It also works with mate-power-manager, but the brightness decreases after one minute if the laptop is AC-unplugged...and sometimes, it doesn't.. I didn't find any preferences in the GUI-settings.
I didn't find any daemon running for this one. I manage the autostart with ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/autostart. I add "@mate-power-manager". :)

For the moment, it's okay.

There is a xfce-power-manager taskbar battery icon that will also allow for quick brightness settings with a right-click, but I think it's separate from what you have been playing round with. I have it on my taskbar right here...perhaps it's only launchable from the xfce panel configuration.

The XFCE developers did go all GNOME for the jessie version of xfce4-power-manager and only allow it to display an icon in xfce4-panel but the stretch version has seen a return to sanity: the icon is disabled by default but there is a check-box for it in the right-click options screen.

I swear I can't find the launch icon in lxpanel. I'm going to look again.

By the way, was it the best solution ? I read about some grub changing options but really, I don't know what is the best.

Does this little Python applet work? http://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/main/b/b ... ontroller/

the mx15 version is Jessie-based, mx17 is built on Stretch. There's also a simple version that just controls brightness: http://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/main/b/b ... er-simple/

Sorry OP, I'm such a ****** dumb-ass sometimes — how can we see the "right-click" screen if there is no icon?

Code: Select all

xfce4-power-manager-settings

Yes, good point, I should have suggested that.

The kernel parameters are listed here:

The method is described here:
