USB ethernet not working after wake up from suspend

My USB ethernet connection fails after coming out of suspend. To get it working again, I need to change USB ports, at which point it comes back on line. Does anybody know how to diagnose/fix the problem?

To diagnose I would check the log files and to fix I would alter the suspend/wake process.
