Mouse recognized as keyboard

#1 Post by swamper »

Hi folks. I just bought a new mouse and keyboard for my rig. I hook the keyboard up and its good to go next I hook the mouse up and... When I move the mouse forward to go up the screen it goes down and vice versa. Left and right are good to go.

My box is a 11 year old box I built in 07'. I have a Microsoft Sidewinder mouse that's been hooked to it it's whole life. I have installed multiple linux distros on this box ever since it was built. Usually at least 3 distros on it at once. Never been a peripheral issue, ever. Remember these points please.

Freshly installed Debian 9 this week.
New mouse is a Redragon Tiger 709 that has the inverted single axis. No other issues on the mouse other than as expected the extra buttons don't work as they are not configured on Linux. Buttons are not at issue here the cursor is. Up is down and down is up. On a Win 10 laptop the mouse works flawlessly.

I do some further digging and for some strange reason my mice, include the Sidewinder here, are being detected by udev as keyboards. I suspect the extra buttons are the cause of this issue. I have even had the extra buttons manually mapped at one time or other on the Sidewinder but never realized it was being recognized as a keyboard.

Now I have choices. I can go beat my head against the wall for 3-4 more hours off google looking at all the other distros that have the same type issue and never really find a fix that is legit on Debian, ask these questions here, or return the mouse to the seller. I'm not liking the last option as I have the old Sidewinder that is 11 and it's being looked at as a keyboard too and has always worked. Matter of fact the side buttons do work on the Sidewinder and go backwards and forwards without me configuring them in the last several years.

Anybody have any ideas just tell me what you need to see and I'll post it up. I haven't had to deal with a hardware issue of any sort on Debian since roughly 2002 so I am rusty on that subject which is why I am on this forum.

Thanks

I had both hooked up at once just to get this dump so it could all be seen and compared.
