How to get debian to recognize the display correctly?
How to get debian to recognize the display correctly?
I installed debian and it seems to work fine with one exception. It identified my 55" sony TV (HTPC) as a 37" sony. Normally I wouldn't care except I can't set 1920x1080 rez without it displaying beyond the TV (sorry for my english, not exactly sure how to say it, when I put full screen I can't see the menu bar and parts of the application windows. The TV does not allow changing v/h hold so I can't do that. I tried playing with xrandr but I am not totally sure how to use it so no lucky. For what its worth its connected to my little intel nuc by HDMI. Please help!!

Re: How to get debian to recognize the display correctly?
If it's Skylake or newer then try installing the firmware:
https://packages.debian.org/stretch/fir ... sc-nonfree
Otherwise try https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xr ... esolutions (if the resolution is incorrect) or force the correct DPI (another common problem).
EDIT: it's probably best if you just post the entire output of `xrandr` here, your vague description is worse than useless.
