Which Graphics Driver should I install

#1 Post by TheLamerLinux »

Hello all,

I got a Lenovo Thinkpad T430 and the have dual GPUs Nvidia and Intel. I know there is a Bumblebee driver I can install but I also heard about Nvidia Prime.

I do a little bit of gaming and I want to have the control to switch from Nvidia to Intel or Intel to Nvidia. But that last part if there is no way to do that I wanna stick with Nvidia I know the battery life will go down fast but I'm planning to switch it a bigger battery.

I want a driver that'll support Vulken and DXVK.

So which driver should I install?

If it was mine, I would read as much as possible about the machine, looking for how others did it, then ask help on the forum when I ran into a specific issue.

Debian does not have Nvidia Prime. You have to go to Ubuntu distros for that. IDK if Mint LMDE has it available, though...
The Debian wiki has instructions for installing Bumblebee.

What you need also depends on your hardware, so installing inxi and giving the standard user output (not root!) of "inxi -Fxz" would show us what's in the box.

You can also look at this thread for a backports repo I have with an automatic driver detector and installer, though Dells like the original poster's can be very tough. http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=139769
