TBS DVB-S2 PCIe Cards in debian

Postby gusto1 » 2019-01-12 18:23

Hi all
Sorry my English is very poor
My HW
MB
CPU
TBS6909 DVB-S2 8 Tuner PCIe Card
TBS 6925 PCI-E DVB-S2 TV Tuner Card
Last Proxmox VE (based on debian)

I want to use DVB cards either VM or LXC
I installed the last proxmox
Identification devices in proxmox (host)
Code: Select all
lspci
07:00.0 Multimedia controller: TBS Technologies DVB-S2 4 Tuner PCIe Card
08:00.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7160 (rev 03)

Then I installed the driver (without errors)
If I write in terminals
Code: Select all
dmesg | grep frontend

I should see the available adapters, but I see nothing. The directory /dev/dvb/ does not exist.
Then I found that I need to secure boot disable
When I set up secureboot disable, after reboot is always secure boot enable (hmm).
I tryied
Code: Select all
sudo apt install mokutil
sudo mokutil --disable-validation

and after entering and confirming password
I see
Code: Select all
Failed to request new SB state

-------------------------
I totally deleted all SSD and I install last debian-netinstall.
Then I installed the driver (without errors)
If I write in terminals
Code: Select all
dmesg | grep frontend

I should see the available adapters, but I see nothing. The directory /dev/dvb/ does not exist.
-------------------------
I totally deleted all SSD and I install last ubuntu server.
Then I installed the driver (without errors)
If I write in terminals
Code: Select all
dmesg | grep frontend

I see all the adapters and everything is OK

Perhaps they require non-free firmware.

Look for error msg in dmesg, not grep for what should be there. Remove the module with modprobe -r, then modprobe it again and see if there's an error in dmesg. If you need to find out the name of the module (lspci -k might show you) or look at whatever documentation in the driver pkg.

Find kernel version
Code: Select all
uname -r

In my case
Code: Select all
4.15.18-9-pve

Code: Select all
apt-cache search pve-headers
apt install pve-headers-4.15.18-9-pve

Then install the driver
Now everything works
