ATI radeon 7000

#1 Post by bong.mau »

Hi
HW :Ati RaDEON 7000
SW : Debian 9.9
dmesg:[ 15.808829] radeon 0000:01:00.0: firmware: failed to load radeon/R100_cp.bin (-2)
[ 15.808894] radeon 0000:01:00.0: Direct firmware load for radeon/R100_cp.bin failed with error -2
[ 15.808995] [drm:r100_cp_init [radeon]] *ERROR* Failed to load firmware!
[ 15.850086] radeon 0000:01:00.0: firmware: failed to load radeon/R100_cp.bin (-2)
[ 15.850151] radeon 0000:01:00.0: Direct firmware load for radeon/R100_cp.bin failed with error -2
[ 15.850269] [drm:r100_cp_init [radeon]] *ERROR* Failed to load firmware!

I switched from xfce to lxde and it seems graphic is worst...i'm not talking about icon and color
but ot seems it does not recognize correct monitor refresh ...setup say "VGA Monitor" ,refresh rate 86.96
i have to install propretary driver to fix problem or there is a workaround ?
Thanks in advance

Install firmware-amd-graphics from the non-free section to suppress the error message.

Hi
thanks for the answer
looking https://packages.debian.org/stretch/fir ... ux-nonfree
list firmware-linux-nonfree (20161130-5) and firmware-amd-graphics
my card is
Radeon 7000 Radeon VE
Vendor 1002 dev 5159
to get it working i need only firmare-and-grapics or both packages ?
before opening the topic i installed firmware-linux-free ,i have to remove it ?
i put here additional info about my card

What is unclear to you in "install firmware-amd-graphics" ?
However, feel free to install as many unnecessary packages as you like.

HI
i repeat... i installed the package linux-free before opening this topic, this because i do not want people work for a proble when there are packages available in the dvd that may rsolve situation
now i will remove linux-free-firmaware and i will install amd firmware
however looking at https://packages.debian.org/stretch/fir ... d-graphics
it does not contain radeon 7000
this is because i wrote previous post
i'm an old computer technic ,all my life in IBM ...

* Radeon R100-family CP microcode (radeon/R100_cp.bin)
R100 family includes Radeon 7000(VE).

OK ... i installed the package and no more messages at boot
Now a question...the target is "to understand" ... i'm old about computer and in the mainframes OS/390 when i was working at IBM all done using line commands or bach jobs...no icons...so it became difficult to manage, but was "a must" understand what we was doing (forgive my english...)
So returning to my installation...let me know...we use open source drivers with propretary firmaware support ?
lsmod still shows me radeon as loaded module
thanks in advance
