Graphics driver for Intel 3e92 (Coffee Lake)

#1 Post by drkayak99 »

I installed Debian 9 on a new desktop with Intel Core i7-8700k, integrated graphics, and ASUS Prime B360m-A LGA 1151 MB, but have been unable to get the graphics resolution needed for my monitor (1680x1050). I installed the firmware packages mentioned at https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo#Drivers, to no avail. I also tried the measure that has worked for other users, namely editing /etc/default/grub to include the line

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i915.alpha_support=1"
, but that didn't help either. I also tried the ppa approaches mentioned at https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2377324, but after many key errors, and attempts to install packages to resolve those errors, I read a post that indicated this approach is best suited for Ubuntu, not Debian, so I abandoned that effort. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In 4 days, Debian 10 will be released and will have the updated kernel and graphics drivers mentioned in the above link. It should work out of the box.

Your Debian 10 install, will be easier if you use the unofficial images with firmware. With a few exceptions, the specific firmware your system needs will be loaded during the initial install rather than manually installed on the post-install boot.

Though Buster's release will solve the issue, it has been possible for over a year to get the same hardware working correctly on Stretch with backported kernels, Mesa, and firmware.
