Getting your soundcard to work, using Debian on non-i386 hardware, etc

[buster] [network] cannot re-connect via ethernet

Postby lelebart » 2019-10-01 18:32

Hi everybody,
long story short afaik: if the networked connection went away (hibernation, modem/router/lan fault, etc.) the machine is unable to connect again unless it's been rebooted.

Usage / Scope of the machine: pi-hole + torrent box.

The machine: I've done a fresh install on a not-so-new small laptop/netbook with a new ssd drive, because the old hdd with win7 and deb9 went away; with deb9 I didn't have such problem, I'd like to use deb10.

Linux / Debian know-how level: borderline beginner, search engines friendly, I put random command on the shell hoping not to destroy the world.

Any suggestions on how to get re-connect automagically? Thanks.

Addendum: at the first time I thought this anomaly could be casued by "Energy Efficient Ethernet", so I've tried to do what written in this help request https://unix.stackexchange.com/question ... n-ethernet without results

Is the kernel module for the device loaded after resuming?

If not see https://askubuntu.com/questions/1029250 ... er-suspend

How I can know that? Sorry for my incompetence.

I've tried to do what the answering guy did, with the jme driver, but without results.

If I just unplug the ethernet cable and then plug it in again, wicd cannot re-connect.

Run lspci -k again or use the lsmod command.

Does this bring back the connection:
Code: Select all
# ifup enp9s0f5

You could try systemd-networkd instead of ifupdown, it might be able to regain the connection itself.

wicd? why are you using that mess?

If you only need wired, then you can use debian's default (ifupdown) or, even better, systemd-networkd.

(and if you need wireless there also better solutions. wicd is a hacky-scripty-mess).

I believe wicd is default in the LXDE DE. It was in Deb 9.
