RV350/M10GL non-free firmware causes System to freeze

#1 Post by PentiumMUser »

Hello,
I bough a Siemens Celsius H210 laptop with Mobility FireGL T2.

Code: Select all

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV350/M10 GL [Mobility FireGL T2] (rev 80)
When I boot it up it says that firmware for the GPU is missing.

Code: Select all

ul 17 10:21:27 celsius kernel: [ 11.444668] [drm] Loading R300 Microcode
Jul 17 10:21:27 celsius kernel: [ 11.444730] radeon 0000:01:00.0: firmware: failed to load radeon/R300_cp.bin (-2)
Jul 17 10:21:27 celsius kernel: [ 11.444785] firmware_class: See https://wiki.debian.org/Firmware for information about missing firmware
Jul 17 10:21:27 celsius kernel: [ 11.444839] radeon 0000:01:00.0: Direct firmware load for radeon/R300_cp.bin failed with error -2
Jul 17 10:21:27 celsius kernel: [ 11.445031] [drm:r100_cp_init [radeon]] *ERROR* Failed to load firmware!
Jul 17 10:21:27 celsius kernel: [ 11.445081] radeon 0000:01:00.0: failed initializing CP (-2).
Jul 17 10:21:27 celsius kernel: [ 11.445127] radeon 0000:01:00.0: Disabling GPU acceleration
Jul 17 10:21:27 celsius kernel: [ 11.445173] [drm] radeon: cp finalized
Jul 17 10:21:27 celsius kernel: [ 11.445229] [drm] radeon: cp finalized
When I install the package firmware-amd-graphics, the system stops working after a restart. The XServer doesn't start anymore and the virtual consoles (Ctrl+Alt+Fx) also don't work anymore.
I have to boot into recovery mode and the uninstall that packages, run update-initramfs and update-grub.
Then I can properly operate the OS.

Another problem I link with that is the sleep problem. If I put the laptop into sleep it freezes after waking it up.
It restarts after a minute.
I can reproduce that if you need kernel logs. I also found the logs from the first bootup to now, if this might be helpful.

Kind regards
