Hi guys,
I have a pc with a Promise Sata 300 TX2 Plus recognized by Buster as libata (sata_promise, pata_via, ata_generic), I'd like to do a fresh install with Bullseye but now libata is not avalaible!
I tried to load, during the installation, modules found here https://packages.debian.org/search?suit ... rds=libata but Bullseye reply me with a red screen, and it says these drivers don't work!
How could I solve this problem? Is it possible to recompile the kernel of Bullseye netinstall? I tried something in my past when I made tun.ko module from an Android cooked rom, I did a dump from github, etc.
Could I port modules from Buster to Bullseye? Should I do a dist-upgrade?
Is it possible to write to Debian's developers?

What do you mean by "libata is not available" in bullseye ?
AFAICS libata.ko an sata_promise.ko are still available in bullseye current -686 kernel for i386.
https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/i3 ... 6/filelist
And they are still present in the ata-modules-5.7.0-1-686-di and sata-modules-5.7.0-1-686-di installer components.
They are also present in bullseye installer cdrom initrd.
How do you try to install bullseye ?

These packages do not contain kernel modules.GabrieleMax wrote:I tried to load, during the installation, modules found here https://packages.debian.org/search?suit ... rds=libata

On this pc now there's Buster i386 and everything is fine, I wrote it to say hardware is ok!p.H wrote:What do you mean by "libata is not available" in bullseye ?
Like what I wrote in my first post I'd like to do a fresh Bullseye intall by using last i386 netinstall image but when the o.s. should detect the pci card (and obviously hard disks!) it says "no hard disks found", please select a driver, I can see a list with some drivers but I can't see mine!
I tried also to insert drivers on an external usb stick but it doesn't work... I understood I used wrong drivers!
It's a good news but... it seems doesn't work on my pc!p.H wrote: AFAICS libata.ko an sata_promise.koi are still available in bullseye current -686 kernel for i386.

Like what I wrote above I'm using last Bullseye i386 netinstall iso, maybe I could try to use a full image to install the o.s. or I could try to "open" the netinstall image to understand if there is this driver!p.H wrote: How do you try to install bullseye ?
Thanks for your reply!

What netinstall image did you use exactly ? In this page there are several available : official release, weekly build, daily build
In the installer shell, what is the output of
regarding the SATA controller ?
In the installer shell, what is the output of
Code: Select all

I tried this: https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/week ... etinst.iso and it doesn't work.p.H wrote:What netinstall image did you use exactly ? In this page there are several available : official release, weekly build, daily build
I tried this: https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/dail ... etinst.iso and it doesn't work.
I tried this: https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/bull ... etinst.iso and it works but before to use it I used https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/cu ... etinst.iso to remove old LVM on my hard disks because by Bullseye wasn't possible...
I installed Bullseye from Alpa2 iso but when it finished the installation after the reboot the pc shows errors with missing firmwares like mandatory.db and others and I didn't have the login; I waited minutes and minutes, I did hardware reboot and I had always errors about missing firmwares before but system was like freezed and didn't allow me to have the login also by ctrl+alt+f1!
During the installation Bullseye didn't ask me to load any firmware!
I installed Buster and now I think I'll stay with this for some months because I don't have issues with it!
I used Bullseye with a lot of 64bit machine (laptops and pcs) and it works well, I think there are problems with i386 architecture...
