I used nvidia-driver from buster-backports, and it stopped working after the update a week or two ago. It failed to load and X defaulted to 1024x768 resolution.
I solved it by downgrading to the nvidia-driver from stable. It now works as normal (except that the stable version has slightly less Vulkan support).
Did I do something wrong, should it be reported as a bug, or is this just to be expected when using backports?
Using 64-bit Debian with an nVidia GTX 1650 Super card.

^ Probably this but I wouldn't use NVIDIA hardware if you paid me so I'm just guessing.Islander wrote:is this just to be expected when using backports?

Re: Update broke nvidia-driver in buster-backports
Maybe if you advise which kernel version you are using and include some relevant logs it might be possible to get a useful answer. Did the driver actually build modules when you installed, or did it revert to a fallback driver like nouveau or modesetting?

450.82 is working with my 1050Ti, so I would think that it should with your newer card.
All too often, as sunrat has already said, the build might fail, but the user blithely assumes it worked. Giving us the complete build log would help.

Re: Update broke nvidia-driver in buster-backports
I tried to replicate the problem today, but the nvidia-drivers from buster-backports loaded normally.
(I tried and failed multiple times when the problem originally occurred)
