Hello,
I have a HDD Docking like https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71pU6aVvCbL._AC_SL1500_.jpg and when I plugged it to my system then Debian can't detect it:
Code: Select all
$ sudo dmesg
[13501.906136] usb 2-8: new high-speed USB device number 8 using xhci_hcd
[13502.058679] usb 2-8: device descriptor read/all, error -71
[13502.186144] usb 2-8: new high-speed USB device number 9 using xhci_hcd
[13502.354558] usb 2-8: unable to read config index 0 descriptor/start: -71
[13502.354562] usb 2-8: can't read configurations, error -71
[13502.354594] usb usb2-port8: attempt power cycle
[13503.006138] usb 2-8: new high-speed USB device number 10 using xhci_hcd

[13503.206691] usb 2-8: device descriptor read/all, error -71
[13503.206744] usb usb2-port8: unable to enumerate USB device

And:
Code: Select all
$ lsusb
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 8087:8000 Intel Corp.
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:8008 Intel Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Is this kind of device supported by Linux?

Do you have a specific MAKE and MODEL number?

What did it say in the advert/ What does it say in the manual that came with it?

This: (Looks like it) https://www.newegg.com/p/0VN-00NN-00014 ... -_-Product

says
1) Support System: Compatible with Windows XP / Vista / 7/8 / 8.1 / 10 (32/64 bit), Mac OS 10.10 or later, Linux.
2) NOTE: Please do not hot-swap the hard disk, when the product works.
3) NOTE: Not compatible with Western Digital IDE hard drive
