Help with using NVIDIA PRIME Render Offload

#1 Post by frazatto »

Hello o/

I'm trying this for a while now with some success, but just got stuck with installing the correct Xorg version.
If you could please take a look at the official guide https://wiki.debian.org/NVIDIA%20Optimus

Currently I'm using up to date Debian 10 Buster and installed the backport version for Nvidia drivers (laptop nvidia 1050i). I successfully configured "Using NVIDIA GPU as the primary GPU" as described but now I would like to make offloading to work since it is much better for the laptop battery life.

The only problem is just using the backport driver doesn't make offloading to work, you need X.Org Server at least 1.20.6, and if you check buster https://packages.debian.org/buster/xserver-xorg-core is still 1.20.4.

For some reason the backport version of this package is the same, should I go for Sid package 1.20.10?
Can some one that made it work give me a hand with this last step?

Thanks.

Not unless you want to break your system.

MX Linux have v1.20.9 in their AHS repository, see http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=146083 for a way to add those to a Debian buster box in relative safety.

If it works for you then the MX devs would probably appreciate some feedback over at their forums.
