[SOLVED] wifi problem

#1 Post by phoenix_art »

Hello!

I installed debian 10 (LXDE) on my notebook (DELL LATITUDE E6430s) and installed the suggested firmware-iwlwifi but I can't see any networks and wifi-led doesn't light as usual.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install firmware-iwlwifi
[sudo] password for hgabor84:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
firmware-iwlwifi is already the newest version (20190114-2).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Please help, thank you!

UPDATE:

The default application of LXDE named Wicd network manager can't see anything on wifi but after installing network-manager-gnome package my wifi started to work with another application named Gnome Network Manager.

Sounds like a driver problem. Use ethernet to go to the manufacturer’s driver page and if Linux is not supported (which upon further research it seems like it is), use a package manager that supports driver installers. Also, I have had a similar problem before with my laptop (a 2009 HP Pavilion). I did some repairs on it and forgot to reconnect the wireless card. If you recently took apart your laptop, make sure it’s connected. Hope this helps!

When you installed network manager did you remove Wicd? They don't get along together. At the very least, disable one or the other.

wifi-led doesn't light as usual.
Silly question. Is the wifi switch, on the right, turned on?

Of course. :)
