Suggestions for inexpensive video cards for Debian

#1 Post by loninappleton »

I'll be running both Windows 98se and Debian mepis or maybe Ubuntu until a clear alternativer appears.\

But I do need a new vid card. Recently the Linux journal
showed a PNY PCI card in their dream build. Are the
PCIs less headache than Nvidai or agp?

What is a goo recommendsation for a vid card that cna
handle video editing (not games) and such things as DIVx playback
under both windows and Linux.

My upgraded system will include a Mach Speed X-Caliber
board, 512 3200 400mHz mem and Celeron 2.93 mHz cpu
and a Benq dual layer dvd burner.
System
Tyan Trinity motherboard
PII Slot 1 Pentium 400 mHz
394 memory
Voyetra Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard
Mass storage - various
Yamaha RP U100 USB receiver

Ubuntu doesn't really work with debian anymore, they support more hardware too, so best ask in an Ubuntu or mephis forum and not a debian forum

Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity.

Ubuntu does not support more hardware. It simply includes newer software than Debian stable. Once again, this is because Ubuntu does not make 100% stable releases, like Debian does.

Back on topic, you might be interested in looking at Matrox cards.

Always glad to be back on topic. :-)

Sorry about the excessive typos in the original.

What's most common around here are the PNYs and ATI's etc.

I'm using a Matrox Millenium card currently.

How significant is the AGP over the PCI standard?
The new board does not have PCI Express.

Who can tell me about how Debian handles USB and audio?
