Screen Configuration Problems.

#1 Post by bbiglin »

I've installed Debian Woody on my laptop (Sony Vaio PCG-954A), but can't get the GUI to work. When I try to startx, I get this:

"
(EE) VGA(0) : No Display subsection in Screen section "Screen 1" for depth/fbbpp 1/1
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found
"

Is the problem in xf86, or do I have to go back to one of the install discs to fix it?

You probably won't need the install discs.
It seems that the video card setting in your XF86Config file is bad, so you may want to reconfigure it. It can be dome with the following command:
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

What video card do you have?

The problem is I'm not sure. It's hard to find any information on this model without the manual.
