I am new to Debian and Linux. I just got Debian installed and every thing went fine.
When I put any cd in the drive I cant read it. I tried with several audio cds but none
of them worked. Any help would be nice.

Wait, you put Linux on an Apple machine? I thought that's what you did with cheapo secondhand PC's?
Arr, ese!

AFAIK, new Macs don't do analog audio from the CD. Have you tried reading the audio from the CDs digitally? (e.g. via the appropriate plugin in XMMS, or ripping using cdparanoia)
