I have an old Sparq 1.0GB parallel drive that I'd like to try to install on a Debian 3.1 system. So far my attempts have been unsuccessful. In the past I've been able to get the drive to run happily on RHL and Vector Linux 5.1 systems.
Following what worked before, I entered the commands
modprobe paride
modprobe epat
modprobe pd
mount -t vfat /dev/pda1 ./temp
The last line above fails since there are no /dev/pda* devices found on my Debian 3.1 system.
So, I tried creating the devices using a script borrowed from the Sparq section of the Linux Parallel Port homepage (http://cyberelk.net/tim/parport/paride.html). The script generated a lot of device files with question marks in them (for example /dev/pd?15) but not the hoped-for file (/dev/pda1). At this point I am a bit stuck.
Hope someone can share his/her experience on this. Thanks for your help,
drand
