Hi guys,

I'm new to debian. I just installed Debian Etch on my laptop. Everything went fine but CAPSLOCK, SHIFT and ALTGR keys don't work. So I had to go back to ThatWhichOneShouldNotPronounceTheName OS(*) to post this message...

I'm french, with a french laptop keyboard layout (no keypad).

This probably has something to do with the locale(s) being used on your computer. I suggest that you post this question to http://lists.debian.org/debian-user-french/ Odds are much better that someone on that forum has experienced the same problem.
