udev makes /dev/dsp desapears-->soundcard does not works.

#1 Post by Xan »

Hi,

I just installed udev and /dev/dsp (and all /dev/dsp*) desapears. So I have no default sound output (output in /dev/dsp that more programs use). Is it possible to create with udev?

Thanks,
Xan.

udev usually creates this automatically when the sound kernel modules are loaded. Are you sure they are?

Maybe you should also modprobe snd_pcm_oss and snd_mixer_oss.

I have alsa in custom compiled kernel with OSS emulation (/compatibility) (/dev/dsp were the ouput of alsa)

I tried it. System loads modules but sndcard does not sound. Why?

Thanks,

You got /dev/dsp now? Have you already checked the mixer? (alsamixer or another one) per default volume is at 0.
