sound on asus k8v se deluxe

#1 Post by FReNsJ »

The question is quite simple;
I want to have sound on my system ;)

the soundcard on my motherboard is:
ADI AD1980, and it should be ac97 compliant.

thx in advance, you"ll see me asking some other questions, but I'm going to do it one by one :)

To decide what module you need, the output of lspci and/or lspci -n would be helpful...
Could you paste it here?

lspci

lspci is a ls that does not list the contents of a directory but the devices on your pci bus (which themselves are not more that directories from the top-down point of view).

I tried to install the 2.6 kernel version (I have Sarge) nVidia nForce drivers but it said, that it wants to compile a new kernel-interface but it does not find the kernel-tree (and/or source).

I apted and installed the kernel-source-2.6.8 and kernel-tree-2.6.8 packages but the error remains. What should I do?

thx.

nvidia drivers

#6 Post by elgrande »

Hi,

The Nvidia drivers can be nasty sometimes....
First, I would try to install the kernel-headers, too. This makes no sense, but it might help...
Then just try nvidia-kernel-common, nvidia-glx, nvidia-glx-dev, and some other nvidia related packages sarge offers. You can remove them after having compiled the driver.

Maybe a quicker solution:
By the way, if you are using kernel 2.6. Sound should work on your board... Since you are running 2.6.8. which I assume try updating to 2.6.11 image from debian testing.

Peace, elgrande
