R.A.T.5 Mouse clicks not always registering

Postby jabcreations » 2011-03-21 19:10

I just installed Debian 6.01a and when I click with my RAT5 mouse the clicks aren't being registered. This happens about maybe 40% of the time. There is nothing wrong with my machine physically and this is a clean install that is not virtualized. I've had similar issues with Kubunutu though blamed it on the virtual machine...now I know it's a Linux specific issue. Anything I can do to correct this or at least provide some useful information for a bug hunt?

You need to be root to create and edit system files.
In terminal, type su, then give root password then
Code: Select all
nano /etc/X11/Xmodmap
then edit the file, ctrl o to save, ctrl x to exit

Or install nautilus-gksu. This will give you a right click context menu item that lets you open files as root.

I'm familiar with the sudo command however how can I do this without the terminal/console? It's deathly slow.

I installed that package with the Synaptic Package Manager and the option is still greyed out, do I have to reboot?

It will open existing files as root but wont create them. You can right click on the X11 folder and open that as root and create a files as you normally would.
It seems to me doing this with terminal is much easier and faster.

It took a few reboots though it seems like the mouse is now working fine. I was getting really frustrated clicking and having nothing happen. Thanks a ton! :)
