Looking at the settings in nvidia-settings should give you a good indication to whether everything is working properly. You can also try running glxgears from the terminal as a test-case.
result:

Code: Select all

Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual
Anyway i founded out that the driver was not good because it doesn't support optimus....so i decided try to install the bumblebee...flowing the guide i should install first nvidia-glx , but first i have to install it's dependence : nvidia-installer-cleanup_20111111+1~bpo60+1_amd64.deb... but when i try to install it give's me this error:

Welcome to the NVIDIA Software Installer for Unix/Linux

If you plan to no longer use the NVIDIA driver, you should make sure that no X
screens are configured to use the NVIDIA X driver in your X configuration file.
If you used nvidia-xconfig to configure X, it may have created a backup of your
original configuration. Would you like to run `nvidia-xconfig
--restore-original-backup` to attempt restoration of the original X
configuration file?

Eddy,
It looks like you hit ^C (Ctrl+C) instead of answering Yes or No to the question the nvidia-isnstaller-cleanup asked you.
What you're being told is that you've got your xorg.conf set up to use the nvidia driver.
[default: (N)o]: ^CReceived signal SIGINT; aborting.
Try answering No. You can also answer Yes -- it will look for files like e.g. xorg.conf-bu-2011-09-09-14:21:42 and reinstate them. I think you've better off starting without an xorg.conf though and let the bumblebee nvidia installer create one.

If you want to do the removal by hand, this would be my general approach.

(re)move your xorg.conf file

Code: Select all

sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup
Remove or comment out any lines mentioning nvidia from your /etc/modules file.

You may also want to move any files with nvidia in the name from your /etc/modprobe.d --- move them to another folder for safekeeping e.g. your home folder. (don't make any subfolders in /etc/modprobe.d)

Then either restart, or unload the nvidia driver:

Code: Select all

sudo rmmod nvidia
and you will be back to an nvidia-free system. You can probably then follow the bumblebee guide.

How can i answer? I just typed "no" or "yes" than enter , but nothing happened...

Eddy,
The clean-up probably isn't important, but it's still worth getting everything to work as intended.

This is what you should check first:
Is the x server still running, i.e. have you shut it down/rebooted in text mode, or are you having your desktop running?
Have you tried just hitting enter? Or N, then enter? Or Y then enter?
If it still fails, just move the /etc/X11/xorg.conf out of the way.

But having googled a bit I think there may be a bigger issue at hand:
http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic ... nt-update/
(the smxi they are referring to is here: http://smxi.org/)

I don't know how to see if the x server is still working , i don't really know for sure what is...anyway i tried all! enter , N then enter etc...and there's no file /etc/X11/xorg.conf...
The clean-up is dependent for the packages i need to install for bubblebee, otherwize they don't start... I think that the guy in your link was a different problem..can you explain me a bit more about smxi?

Eddy,
Since I don't have a system in a similar state as yours I can't do any testing. Any advice I give will just be me guessing at what to do. Someone else might have a better idea.

I would suspect that the cleanup should only run if there are other nvidia packages already installed, so you might just want to remove all nvidia packages if you haven't already.

To shut down the x server I think this would be the easiest approach:
go to a terminal (e.g.. ctrl+f1), and do

Code: Select all

sudo service gdm3 stop
(assuming you're using gdm3)

Then unload the nvidia driver:if it's loaded

Code: Select all

sudo rmmod nvidia
Try running the installation again now. I'm not sure why the nvidia installler cleanup script is failing, but hopefully it's just because your X is running.

I can't give you any specific advice though.

thank for your help i tried what u've said but did the same result..

anyway before the failing of the script I get this message window:

Code: Select all

The 'nvidia-installer program was found i your sistem. This is probaly left over from an earlier instalation of the non-free NVIDIA grafics driver, installed unsing the NVIDIA *.run file directly. This installation is incompatible with the debian packages. To install the debian packages safely , it is therefore neccessary to undo the changes performed by 'nvidia_installer' .
Run 'nvidia-installer --uninstall'?
yes no
'
after i answer yes i got the screen were the script is failing...

Eddy,
since I don't have access to a system with similar issues it's difficult for me to help you. Please don't bump things by reposting. People visit the forums when they have time.

Anyway,
bumblebee-nvidia depends on bumblebee (= 3.0.1-1); however:
Package bumblebee is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing bumblebee-nvidia (--configure):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Is there a bumblebeed in your /etc/init.d? If not, is it possible to install the bumblebeed before anything else, and launch it using

Code: Select all

sudo service bumblebeed start
?

Other increasingly desperate things to try are

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install -f
to make sure any missing deps are installed, followed by

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg-reconfigure bumblebee
Other than that, try reading
https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bu ... leshooting

https://wiki.debian.org/Bumblebee

https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bu ... ing-Issues

although I suspect you already have.

You may also want to have a look at the Linux Mint forums since similar issues presumably may arise on their Linux Mint Debian Edition. Just be careful about ppas.

Also, what about using the bumblebee-nouveau instead of the nvidia driver? Does everything install ok then?

 bumblebee
 bumblebee-nvidia
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
to make sure any missing deps are installed, followed by

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg-reconfigure bumblebee
result:

Code: Select all

dpkg-reconfigure bumblebee
/usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: bumblebee is broken or not fully installed
It gives me the same errors from the installation...any way, you recommend me the repository install or the manual install? and how can I try nouveau if i've installed all the nvidia packages? they are too much to uninstall theme one by one... it seams that the bumblebee won't be easy to repair...thanks for your time!

Eddy,
I'm happy to hear that it worked out in the end for you, and I apologise for not following up towards the end (I'm lecturing at a university in the southern hemisphere and the finals start next week -- busy days for everyone).

You may want to summarise what you did in the end (that worked) in a last post and then mark the topic as solved.

OPs: don't forget to mark your (first) post as solved when the issue has been resolved.
