precompiled 2.6 kernel

#1 Post by hesoez »

hi

i want to install a 2.6 kernel on my debian pc without compiling one myself.
i'm using 'testing' upgraded from stable, so for the moment i'm running a bf24 kernel from the woody installation.
how can i do this with apt and what do i have to do to configure the modules(like getting that ncurses based selection from the installation of woody).

thx
forgive for my newb questions

I think you have to compile the kernel yourself if you want to install a new one. Sorry

But even for beginners it's possible to do.
Try this howto. And if your need any help, ask your questions here.
And remember we al started as a newbee (and some of us still are), we all learned by asking questions

hi

i've installed a precompiled 2.6.3 kernel with 'apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.3-1-686'
and configured the modules with 'modconf'

i've just tried to install grub but it won't find the kernel image, i checked three times but there was no typo.
back with lilo now

on to the next problem
