It seems that there isn't a NetBeans package for Jessie (right?).

Anyone with experience of installing NetBeans 8.1 with an installer from netbeans.org? Does it work OK with default-jdk on Jessie? Any issues one should know about if doing this?

NetBeans for Jessie
Re: NetBeans for Jessie
debian stable, aka jessie, is not necessarily the best distro to get the newest version of any software, let alone a java-based behemoth.
let me ask this:
are you looking for a good IDE for linux?
i think there are many good IDEs for linux, that are not java-based.
just saying.
anyhow, searching debian jessie netbeans 8.1 gives a few results, it seems to be possible without messing with your sources. just give it a try with the open java.
if i may interest you in an alternative, here's a random search result:

Re: NetBeans for Jessie
The reason I need NetBeans is that it's for a Java course, and the teachers use NetBeans in the examples (e.g. videos). Therefore it would be easier for me than other IDE's in this case.
Personally I have no preference for IDE's. Simply because I don't know the others.
Do you think Eclipse would do as well? I think I'll take a look.

You will probably want to use e(fx)clipse someday during your Eclipse journey, thus just take a look at my recent thread about that while considering Eclipse.risto wrote:Do you think Eclipse would do as well? I think I'll take a look.
